Dear Friends of Zigzag,
Last summer we decided to go out on a limb…we converted the ground floor of our store into a contemporary art-space. Thus began an exhilarating year: shows spanning many media and aesthetics, artist talks, and even live music! Zigzag is grateful for the interest and enthusiasm of our gallery visitors, who have been supremely supportive both of our artists and of our ongoing mission to expand art appreciation in the community. The artists themselves have found this to be an intimate and accessible venue to exhibit their work.
This summer we will feature several new artists, as well as some of our regular exhibitors, in Summer Highlights. Please stop by to cool off and refresh your eyes.
In the fall our 2010-11 schedule starts with the work of Bradley Birkhimer, respected ceramic artist. Following that is an exhibit of two highly esteemed photographers, Sarah Huntington and Elsie Hull.
On the education side, Zigzag is expanding its offerings of workshops, both for families and for artists. This past April we had a successful Pop-up Paper Structure Workshop with Carol Barton, renowned book artist, in conjunction with our Paper Stew show. This August we have planned two Saturday afternoon family workshops: Tunnel Books and Paper Pulp Painting. Kids and Parents welcome!
For those interested in learning the old-school technique of copper-plate etching, please join us for Basic Etching, also happening this August. All classes are held at the Rail Road Arts Building in the Plains. See inside this newsletter for more details.
In conclusion, Zigzag invites you to dress cool, follow along the Zigzag path to our front door, and join us in some creative moments.

This Show presents both glazed and unglazed functional pottery. The interplay of indigenous clays, intense heat, glaze, and ash result in a patina of understated elegance and rustic simplicity. These unassuming pieces exude a world of quiet, refined dignity. Fire, water, and earth express themselves through the potters' art.

This show focused on Catherine White’s recent wood fired clay tripods and triplets,
as well as text plates, ripped edge vases and collaged drawings. Warren Frederick’s
